Berlanda

Meet Berlanda, a 9 year-old living with her loving parents and six siblings. When her family struggled to access nutritious food, Berlanda lost a significant amount of weight.

Berlanda’s mother sought help from MFK’s Medika Mamba program. Over a period of 15 weeks, Berlanda showed great resilience and gained nearly 15 pounds. With renewed strength and health, she is now able to embrace life’s moments with other children.

Big

1 year-old Big weighed only 10 pounds and had very little strength, unable to even hold his own head up. Knowing his son needed help, Big’s father drove four hours to the nearest malnutrition clinic.

After receiving Medika Mamba treatment, Big gained 10 more pounds and could stand up! It was a relief for his family to see him smile and laugh, and now he has a chance to grow as a healthy, playful child.

Jeffté

When Jeffté was 7 months old, his appetite decreased and he began to lose weight. After a few months, his grandmother brought him to a local hospital, and he was referred to MFK’s partner clinic for malnutrition treatment.

Weighing only 8.8 pounds, Jeffté stayed at the clinic for 3 weeks until he was able to be treated with Medika Mamba from home. After 11 weeks, Jeffté regained his appetite and weighed a much healthier 16.3 pounds!

Smithson

Like many young children in Haiti, Smithson was hungry and tried to grab food from a hot pot. He came to the clinic with severe burns on his hand as a result.

Medika Mamba RUTF is not only a cure for malnutrition. Rich in vitamins and minerals, it can also be used to help children heal from other illnesses and injuries. After 4 weeks of treatment along with daily dressing changes for his burns, Smithson gained some weight and his hand was fully healed!

Stessie

Stessie’s family of farmers experienced many setbacks due to drought, making it a challenge to keep their daughter well-fed. At 1 year old, Stessie weighed 13 pounds and struggled to walk, talk, and eat the food that was available.

Stessie’s parents admitted her to an inpatient Medika Mamba treatment program where she received RUTF. Her strength returned, and soon she reached an incredible, healthy 26 pounds! Her family has since moved closer to the city for more employment opportunities with the goal of keeping her healthy. With her loving family’s support, Stessie is now on track to grow and thrive.
